Diverse wood-cutting applications for demanding use

The Saalasti Cutter V is used in demanding applications, such as pulp mills and power plants with large material flows or raw materials that are especially difficult to process. The machine can process a wide range of materials, including eucalyptus, bark, wood by-products from debarking plants, screening rejects, waste wood, trees, and logs.

The Saalasti Cutter V features our Multitool rotor, which allows you to change the machine’s chipping or crushing knives depending on the material. Changing the knives extends the processable materials even further, as the machine can be converted from a cutter to a crusher and vice versa. Changing the knives takes as little as 45 minutes, making it possible to switch between cutting and crushing even on a daily basis.

The Saalasti Cutter V easily processes even large material flows. You can select the unit’s capacity between 30 and 450 loose m3 per hour and adjust the particle size and shape by changing the wood cutter’s wearing parts.

The machine’s unique safety feature minimizes damage if metal or large stones enter the cutter. Restoring the machinery is quick and easy once the safety mechanism is triggered – the safety functions do not delay the production process.

With extensive experience in the industry, we know the challenges of processing demanding materials. Based on this knowledge, we have developed the EasyRelease technology that prevents fibres from woolening or being ground into excessively small particles.

EasyRelease reduces energy consumption by almost 15 percent compared to the previous model and keeps the material in its desired form. For example, high-quality wood chips or bark chips retain their form for easy transfer to conveyors and feeding into the boiler.

The Saalasti Cutter V is specifically designed to handle demanding and hard-to-process biomass types, such as eucalyptus bark, acacia bark, and various agro-biomasses.

If you are unsure if Saalasti Cutter V can process a certain material, our biomass testing facility can test countless types of biomasses and validate the processing capabilities. Contact our biomass test laboratory team to discuss your specific material and requirements.

The Cutter V uses precision-engineered cutting tools and a solid steel rotor to slice eucalyptus bark into uniform, well-controlled particle sizes. This reduces the formation of “fluffy” or wool-like bark, which can pose issues in material handling and combustion systems.

Saalasti Cutter V includes a mechanical safety mechanism using shear pins that protects the system from overload and foreign objects like metal or rocks. In the event of an incident, the rotor’s anvil and grate open automatically, allowing the material to drop out safely. The motor is stopped instantly via limit switches.

The main wearing parts, including the anvil, grate, and cutting knives, can be refurbished and sharpened. These components are accessed through hydraulically operated hatches. Apart from designated wearing parts, the industrial wood cutter’s overall structure can withstand decades of operation without noticeable wear and tear.
